Khichdi is the very healthy and stomach cooling dish found all over Asia. As per ayurvedic diet it is good for our health. There are many different ways to prepare plain khichdi like rice & Tur dal khichdi, Rice & green gram khichdi, masoor dal & rice khichdi and many other ways.
Khichdi is good for old age people as they don’t have teeth to chew hard food and very nutritional at the time of Pregnancy. In your Pregnancy, if you eat plain Khichdi you will never have heartburn and will get a very pleasant sleep and good for constipation.
After six months if you start giving your baby plain Khichdi your baby will grow up very healthy and have a good nap for a long time. It is also good for a grown up child as it boosts the memory power. Whenever you fall sick if you eat khichdi without ghee you will get well soon.
But in this article, I’m going to prepare Gujarati khichdi i.e., plain Khichdi. All most all the Gujarati’s have khichdi in their dinner thrice in a week as it is light food, consume less time to cook and very very healthy. Gujarati’s speak as “Khichari” in their language.
You can also prepare spicy khichdi by adding vegetables and spices to it. Most of the people have spicy khichdi in spite of plain. Both the khichdis taste well but spicy khichdi taste more tasty & spicy, as few masala are added to it.
To make khichdi more tasty and nutritious for your children you can prepare spicy vegetables Khichdi. Khichdi goes well with roti, kadi, mango pickle, curd, chutney and papad.
1 cup Green gram/Mung dal
3/4 cup Rice
salt to taste
1 tbsp ghee
water 4 cups
a pinch turmeric(optional)
In a pressure cooker boil 4 cups water.
Mix green gram and rice, wash in the running water for 2- 3 times.
Add salt, ghee and turmeric.
close the pressure cooker and cook khichdi up to 5 whistles.
open the pressure cooker and mix the khichdi well by adding a large tbsp of ghee to it.
Now serve the khichdi hot with kadi and roti.
