Lauki ka Halwa Recipe – Bottle Gourd Pudding | लौकी की खीर

Bottle gourd is very widely used to prepare many dish all over the globe. You can prepare paratha, pakoda, curry/subzi, soup, sweets, chutney, dals and many more. But in India it is popular as Lauki ka Halwa.

Lauki ka halwa is an Indian sweet served as a desert. Most of the Indians love lauki ka halwa as its is not much sweet and also good for health. Lauki/Bottle gourd is available in all the seasons in India, so this halwa is done in any season.

Lauki ka halwa goes well with Fancy paratha, puri, puri and curry like Butter paneer masala, Baby potatoes green peas curry.

Ingredients to prepare Lauki ka Halwa

  • 1 cup grated lauki
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4-5 Chewnuts
  • 3-4 Badam
  • 1/2 tbp cardamom powder
  • A pinch green food color

Step by step method to prepare Lauki ka Halwa

Is the Lauki Ka Halwa recipe:

  • Wash lauki very well and clean it with a cloth.
  • Now remove the skin of the lauki, then cut it from half.
  • Then remove the seeds of the lauki if any.
  • Now cut lauki in small or large pieces as per your comfort for grating. Then start grating the lauki with a grater.
  • After grating is done, lauki will shed the juice from it. So soon after grating start the preparation of halwa.
  • Still if there is juice in lauki, remove the juice by pressing the grated lauki in between your hands. If there is juice in lauki it takes much time to cook.
  • Now heat a kadai and add 3 tbsp ghee to it.
  • As the ghee gets heated add 1 cup grated lauki in it.
  • Now saute the lauki continuously untill it gives a good aroma.
  • If it is sticking to the bottem of the kadai add little lauki juice to it.
  • After it is cooked add sugar to the lauki and stir well.
  • Now add dry fruits and cardamom powder to it.
  • At last add the green food color to the halwa.
  • Close the lid the let it cook at a sim gas stove for few minutes.
  • Now serve it hot with puri and a curry.
