How to Prepare Palak Dal Fry – Palak Pappu Recipe | Spinach Dal Fry

In Northern states of India, Dal fry is very famous as they are eaten with Roti, Phulka, Paratha and Naan. Dal fry can be prepared by adding various vegetables as well as leafy vegetables like Palak Dal fry, Sorrel leaves Dal Fry, Bottle gourd Dal fry and so on.Palak Dal Fry

Palak Dal Fry Recipe

In South Indian states the dal fry is named as Pappu(dal), as they prepare various varieties of pappu or dal with different ingredients.

In this article, I’m going to prepare Palak Leaves dal fry or Spinach Dal Fry.

Palak Dal fry Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tural dal
  • 3-4 Palak stems
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 3 green chilly
  • 1 lemon sized tamarind
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 stems curry leaves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp hing
  • 2 dry red chilly
  • 2 tbsp oil(Add while presser cooking)
  • 3 tbsp oil(for tadka)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water to cook the palak dal fry

Preparation of Spinach Dal Fry

Wash and clean palak and separate the stem from leaves and chop the Palak leaves.

Soak Tural dal for 1/2 an hour, so that it takes less time to be cooked.

In a pressure cooker add soaked Tural dal, chopped palak,  diced Onion,  diced Tomato, green chills, tamarind, turmeric powder , oil and water(all the ingredients should be dipped).

Presser cook all the above ingredients till the 5 whistle comes and then sim the gas stove and cook for about 5 – 10 minutes and then off the gas stove.

After the air is removed, open the presser cooker and mix it well.

Now in the other pan add 3 tbsp oil and let it heat.

Now add cumin seeds, hing, dry red chilly, ginger and garlic paste, curry leaves.

Add the tadka to the palak dal fry and mix it well.

Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it hot.

That’s it. Your Palak Dal Fry is now prepared.

It tastes very yummy when you have this palak Dal fry with plain rice, chapati, Naan and as per your taste.
