Ragi Malt – Ragi Porridge with Jaggery, Ragi Sweet Porridge

Ragi is a cereal which is grown in large scale in India and has wide range of usage in different ways it can be used as to prepared Ragi Malt, Ragi sweet, Ragi Idly, Ragi Dosa, Ragi Roti and many other ways. Ragi is very good for the babies to gain weight and best for pregnant women as it is rich source of iron and fiber.Here we prepared a sweet dish with Ragi.

Ragi Malt – नाचणी लापशी – (In gujarathi – Nagali No C’roo)

Ragi Malt was our special dish for Sunday’s Lunch

People know about Ragi but no use of it in the daily life. Rarely we prepare hot recipes from Ragi but no sweet dishes from it. So today i am going to show you how to prepare Ragi porridge with jaggery as both the ingredients are rich in ‘Iron’ which are very essential vitamins and minerals for our body. Its easy and time saving recipe which you can included in your meal.

Ingredients for Ragi Malt

Ragi Powder or Ragi Flour 1 Cup
Jagger 3 Cup
Elaichi Powder 1 Tbsp
Ghee 2 Tbsp
Few Dry Fruits Optional
Water 3 Cup

Ragi Porridge with Jaggery

In order to prepare Ragi Malt, you should first prepare Jaggery water.

How to prepare Jaggery water

    • Firstly boil 2-3 cup water and add jaggery to it.
    • Let the jaggery melt in the water totally.
    • Now filter water with the help of strainer and close the lid.

Ragi Sweet Porridge Procedure

  • Heat a heavy based bottom pan and add ghee to it.
  • As the ghee is heated add Ragi Flour or Ragi Powder to it.
  • Now keep on stirring the Ragi flour for few minutes.
  • Ragi flour gives a very good aroma/smell, when is it turns to brown color.
  • Now off the gas stove and remove the pan from the stove.
  • Now slowly add the jaggery water to the flour.
  • Be careful while doing this as both the ingredients are hot.
  • Don’t let the Ragi flour to cool, it may built balls while adding water.
  • After adding jaggery water let it cook for 10 minutes.
  • Later on add Elaichi powder and dry fruits.
  • Slowly the water will be observed by the Ragi flour and it will be cooked
  • You can add boiled water if necessary.
  • Now the Ragi Sweet Porridge is ready to eat.
